Wilbur is a storyteller/singer/songwriter. He began playing music at a young age in his father’s church. It is the countless hours spent in this atmosphere that cultivated Wilbur’s love for music and his connection to its spiritual and healing nature. Growing up Wilbur was exposed to all styles of black American music ranging from gospel to jazz and everything in between. For him, the unifying factor that all of these styles had in common was the folkloric tradition of telling a story. As a result, he affectionately refers to his music as “Black Folk Music.” Wilbur endeavors to write music that blends the elements of all the black American music he grew up playing while presenting an experience steeped in the story telling traditions of folklore.
